Moodle questions CAN be shared between Moodle courses.
This is done by sharing the CATEGORY that the questions are housed within.
That category is then imported onto another course's question bank. Once in their bank, they can then add a quiz and attached those questions to the quiz.
BASIC STEPS
To export a category of questions,
Click "Course Management" settings wheel
Select "Export" within the Question Bank column
3. Select "Moodle XML format" (This is because the file is coming from MOODLE and going back into MOODLE).
4. Find the category of questions you're wanting to share. The number in parenthesis represents the number of questions in that category, so use that to verify that you're sending the right category.
5. Click "Export questions to file"
Export successful! This XML file will now be in your downloads.
To share it, attach this XML file in an email, or upload it to Google Drive and make it shareable.
ADVANCED OPTIONS
"Can I export questions from a colleague's course so that I don't always need to ask them to send the file?"
You can export questions from any course that you are an EDITING teacher on. If you are often sharing quizzes between courses, it might make sense to allow other PLC members editing access to your course to empower them with this ability.
Only Instructional Technologists can add editing teachers, so email your Instructional Technologist to make this request.
"Why can't I export the actual quiz? Why does this only export the category that the quiz questions are housed within?"
Exporting categories between question banks is the best way to share between two active Moodle courses. The only other option is to import an ENTIRE question bank from another course. This will fill up an empty question bank, BUT it will also create duplicate categories for any existing categories that have already been shared.
"My questions are in my question bank, but they are not organized into a category. Can I still share them?"
Easily, no. Technically, yes; however you would have to share whatever category they are currently housed within. This means if you created all questions within the "Default" category for the course, you could share that huge category of questions, but then the importing partner would have to hunt through every one of those questions to just find the desired quiz questions.
It is instead recommended to create a new category in your own question bank and then move those questions into that new category. This will allow you to export just the intended questions. See instructions here.
