BASIC STEPS

FIRST, save the shared XML file. If it was sent to you via email, save it locally such as to your desktop. If it was added to a shared Google Drive folder, locate the XML file and then download it. You can either leave it in your downloads folder or save it to your desktop.

To import a category of questions,

  1. Click "Course Management" settings wheel

  2. Select "Import" within the Question Bank column.

    • NOTE: Be careful to not select Import from the Course Settings column.

3. Select "Moodle XML format"

4. Click "Choose a file" and add your saved file (either from your downloads folder or your Desktop folder)

5. Select "Import"

Import successful! A green bar will affirm the number of questions successfully imported along with a preview of the questions.

6. Click "Continue" which will take you to your question bank where this new category and questions now reside!

7. Now that these questions exist in your course's question bank, your final step is to add them to a Quiz.

Go to the toggle that you want your quiz within > Add an Activity or Resource > Quiz > adjust the settings > Save and Display > Edit Quiz > click 'Add' at the top right corner > from Question Bank > find your category and use the 'T' to select all > select "Add the selected questions to the quiz"

ADVANCED OPTIONS

"My question bank is empty! Is there a way to import an entire Question Bank without needing to export each individual category?"

Yes, this can be done by a "bulk import" by your Instructional Technologist. In the email, include:

  • The course URL that has the desired question bank, and

  • The course URL to the Moodle page that needs this question bank imported.

Note that this import will only capture the question bank at the time of import. As new categories & questions are added throughout the year, those will need to be individually shared/exported.
