"Moodle for NISD" is a kiosk mode on NISD Chromebooks.

  • It creates a more secure testing environment. Benefits include:

      • No ability to open a new tab (to access other resources or websites)

      • No ability to minimize the window or use other applications

      • No ability to screenshot/save an image to the 'clipboard'

  • It navigates ONLY to Moodle so students can only open a resource that is currently linked on a Moodle page

BASIC STEPS

Students ENTER Moodle for NISD by:

  1. Signing out of their Chromebook

  2. Clicking on Apps

  3. Selecting Moodle for NISD

  4. Accessing the quiz/assessment site on your Moodle page

Student EXIT Moodle for NISD by:

  1. Press the Power button on the Chromebook

  2. Select "Sign Out" or "Power Off"

They will then sign back into their Chromebook and proceed as normal.

Teachers will:

  • Before class: Add a Moodle quiz

  • During class: Tell students to sign out of their Chromebook, open Moodle for NISD, then open and complete the quiz on your Moodle page.

Moodle for NISD for OTHER TESTING SITES

Depending on how often this site will be accessed, either add it as a URL in a toggle or as a hyperlinked course icon at the top of the course.

Students will then sign out of their Chromebook, select Moodle for NISD, then access the link on your Moodle page.

ADVANCED OPTIONS

"Can students use Text-to-Speech tools like Select-to-Speak or Google Read & Write with Moodle for NISD?"

Unfortunately, no. The benefit to using Moodle for NISD is that it eliminates the upper and lower toolbars, but that also creates another issue of not being able to use the Chrome Extensions. If a student needs to use use these tools for oral accommodations, they will access the quiz like normal by signing into their Chromebook.

"Will students who have their own device, such as a Macbook, be able to use Moodle for NISD?"

No. Moodle for NISD is a device-specific application. Only NISD Chromebooks can use the Moodle for NISD app.

"I've seen the 'Safe Exam Browser' setting in a Moodle Quiz. Is this the same thing as Moodle for NISD?"

They likely have similar functions, but the Safe Exam Browser setting in Moodle quizzes isn't functional yet. Use Moodle for NISD to create this secure testing environment.
